Modern Day Analysis

Today the cold war can still be seen a little bit. We can see it because Obama just made a nuke treaty with Russia so both countries can reduce their nuke power. Russia and the U.S.A together own 90% of the nukes in the world. Obama made this treaty with Russia so we do not go back to the cold war as it was before. The cold war keeps going, it is still not really over because the U.S.A and Russia still want to be the most powerful country to exist. And the U.S.A still competes with Russia with the nukes because they want the best nukes to prove that they are powerful.

U.S.A

My superpower is the U.S.A because I am against Communism. I dont believe in it. I could not live with it. U.S.A has democracy or capitalism. That is what we believe in. The U.S.A suffered a major embarassment because of the Eisenhower cabinet when one of their U-2 planes or spy planes was shot down. At first the U.S.A denied that it was their surveillance plane but then Khruschev, the soviets president sprang his trap and revealed that the pilot was still alive and that is when the U.S.A admitted it was their plane. Francis Gary Powers was the pilot shot down who served 1 year and 9 months in jail but then traded for another prisoner. The U.S.A stands for freedom but the U.S.S.R does not. Today the U.S.S.R does not exist anymore it is Russia but it is not communist anymore. That is what they say. The U.S.A went to wars to contain communism, and not let it spread. The U.S.A wanted to spreqad democracy to other countries and they did but not all this what the U.S still tries to do today.

U-2 Incidents

Following World War II, the relations between the United States and the Soviet Union grew increasingly wary. The USSR did not agree to a U.S. 'Open Skies' proposal in 1955 and relations continued to deteriorate. The U.S. instituted high altitude reconnaissance flights over the Soviet Union because of this aura of mistrust. The U-2 was the plane of choice for the spying missions. The CIA took the lead, keeping the military out of the picture to avoid any possibilities of open conflict. By 1960, the U.S. had flown numerous 'successful' missions over and around the U.S.S.R. However, a major incident was about to occur. On May 1, 1960, a U-2 spy plane piloted by Francis Gary Powers was brought down near Svedlovsk, Soviet Union. This event had a lasting negative impact on U.S. - U.S.S.R. relations
The 1960 U-2 incident occurred during the Cold War on May 1, 1960, during the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower, when an American U-2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union. The United States government at first denied the plane's purpose and mission, but then was forced to admit its role as a covert surveillance aircraft when the Soviet government produced its remains (largely intact) and surviving pilot, Francis Gary Powers. Coming just over two weeks before the scheduled opening of an East–West summit in Paris, the incident was a great embarrassment to the United States and prompted a marked deterioration in its relations with the Soviet Union.

Space Race

The Space Race was when the U.S and the Soviet Union were trying to see who could make it to space first. Well the first country that made it to space was the Soviet Union. The satellite that the Soviet Union launched was named Sputnik. The U.S was mad, they felt inferior, they thought that the Soviet Union was gonna throw nuclear bombs on them from there. Of course it never happened, both countries were afraid to fight against each other. The next year the U.S launched their first satellite into space. In 1969 the U.S was the first country to send a man to space and to the moon. We claimed the moon. The Soviet Union was mad because they did not make it to the moon before the U.S did. Both countries were taking pictures of each others countries with their satellites.

The Arms Race

The Arms Race was when the Soviet Union and the U.S.A tried to make their weapons bigger and stronger and more destructive. The U.S wanted to make a bigger bomb than the atomic bomb so they made the Hydrogen Bomb which is 50 times stronger than the Atomic bomb. The U.S blew the first one up on 1953. We thought that it was gonna take the Soviet Union years to have one but we were far from right. The next year the Soviet Union blew up their first Hydrogen Bomb in the Pacific ocean to show the U.S that they can make whatever they made. The U.S could not believe it they were mad. So they kept working on bigger bombs and making their bombs bigger and more destructive. In the 1960's we even had the power to blow up the whole world. This was called the Cuban Missile Crisis, because the Soviet Union had an alliance with Cuba and that is where they were working on it. They had a missile that can blow up the wholem world we did too.

The Korean War

The Korean War was between North Korea and South Korea. Both countries were divided by the 38th Parallel. North Korea was communist. South Korea was kind of democratic. The U.S.A could not let another country fall to communism, so there was a meeting in the UN so they can send some troops to help the south koreans. The north koreans invaded South Korea so that is what started the war. The south koreans were losing they were surrounded by north korean troops in Pusan a city right on the coast of South Korea. Then general MacArthur who was responsible for the UN troops made a surprise attack with fresh and newn troops by the Yalu River that is in North Korea. North Korea was fighting two fronts. The UN troops and the south koreans pushed the north koreans past the 38th Parallel. When the south koreans and UN troops were about to win, the chinese crossed the Yalu River to help the north koreans, so both sides kept pushing each other across the 38th Parallel. MacArthur was like bring on the chinese we will drop 50 atomic bombs on them. General MacArthur was not lsitening to president Truman. Truman fired him. The war was still going on in Korea. In 1952 the Soviet Union called a cease-fire so they can talk to the U.S.A about peace and how to end this war. Armistice was declared on 1953. Both countries of North Korea and South Korea were still divided by the 38th Parallel and thats how it remained, and it still is divided today by the 38th Parallel.

The Chinese Civil War

During the Cold War, the chinese civil war started. Nationalists against the communists who were being aided by the U.S.S.R and the nationalists were being aided by the U.S.A. The nationalist leader was corrupt, all the money that he got from the U.S.A he kept and did not help at all. The nationalist leader was Chiang Kei Shek. The communist leader was Mao Zedong. The communist beat the nationalists making them flee to Taiwan, an island close to China. The U.S.A could not believe it, China was now communist. The U.S.A was angered because they spent so much money aiding the nationalists and the nationalists had failed.

The Cold War

My Superpower is the U.S.A because we are not communists (Comms), we are capitalists or we are in democracy. The Cold War was between the U.S.S.R and the U.S.A. The U.S.A was trying to contain communism from spreading to other nations. There were many times that the U.S.S.R and the U.S.A clashed in ideologies. There were many times when things heated up in the cold war. The Cold War was actually around the world not just two nations. The Cold War lasted decades. It started on 1945 and ended on 1991. The main rivals in this war were the U.S.A and the U.S.S.R. The war started when U.S.A and the U.S.S.R competed for power. They wanted to be looked upon like the most powerful country in the world. Both nations were afraid to attack each other because there were many nuclear weapons, that would have probably blown the whole world up. The U.S.A went to two wars to try and contain communism. They failed once. The first war was not won or lost. So there is no failure or success there. They helped other countries like Greece with money so they did not fall in communism.
